Summer Break!

Standplaats Wereld is going on summer break. We appreciate all the contributions to our blog this year and would like to wish everyone a great summer!

Below a little recap of what’s happened on SpW since the start of the year.

The COVID-19 pandemic has left a significant stamp on this year. Like many other anthropology blogs, Standplaats wereld has published reflections on the virus’ impact across the world. There are blogs about fieldwork during the pandemic, about lockdown and the ‘new normal’, and about how the pandemic differs across countries.

Besides this, Standplaats wereld featured a short series on the history and state of anthropology in the Netherlands (in Dutch) and some exciting new blogs exploring the interrelation of art and anthropology, such as ‘While we live‘, ‘15 juni 3054‘, and ‘Art, anthropology and authority’.

Finally, we were very excited about the opportunity of some of our bachelor students to do research for the municipality of Amsterdam. This is a great example of applying anthropology and having anthropological research incorporated in public policy. It coincided with the publication of Antropoloog gezocht, a book about the added value of anthropologists to organisations, governments, and companies.
